The Artist Behind the Art

Hi, I am Melissa or "Mel", the artist behind Blue Monkey Designs. With over 20 years of professional Graphic Design experience, art has never just been a hobby — it's a lifelong passion. That passion for design, color, and craftsmanship eventually led to a natural evolution: transforming everyday sneakers and accessories into wearable works of art.

What started as a love for design grew into something deeper — a dedication to creating pieces that are truly one of a kind, made specifically for the person wearing them.

Quality isn't accidental. The techniques behind every BlueMonkeyDesigns piece were honed through direct training with two of the most respected names in the custom shoe painting industry:

The Custom Process

Creating your custom piece is a collaborative experience from start to finish:

1. Consultation — We start with a conversation about your vision, style, colors, and ideas. Custom orders are a partnership.
2. Design — Your concept is brought to life with 20+ years of design expertise guiding every decision.
3. Hand-Painting — Each piece is carefully painted by hand with professional Angelus paints, layer by layer.
4. Finishing — A professional sealer finish is applied to protect and preserve your artwork.
5. Delivery — Your one-of-a-kind piece arrives ready to wear or display. Please allow 4-8 weeks for completion.

Shipping/Care & FAQ

1. Shipping — We use UPS Ground and charge a Flat Rate.
2. Product Care — We use Angelus Sealer, which is extremely durable.  We recommend a light wipe with a damp cloth only. We have no experience with protective coatings like Scotchgard, etc.
3. Turnaround Time — We generally ship within 4-8 weeks depending on work load. Please plan ahead, but also let us know if you are trying to hit a certain key date.
4. Returns — Unfortunately, there are no returns, as each piece is made to order/custom.
5. Outside the US — We are happy to work with you through our Ebay store.
